Austin
Lead Vocals
Austin DeGroot is lead vocals for SINEWAVES! Born and raised in small town USA near Green Bay, WI, Austin grew up with a love for music. He had a microphone in his hand by the time he could walk. With several solo albums under his belt, along with multiple national anthem performances at the Green Bay Packers Stadium - all by the age of 15 years old - he quickly realized his passion for singing would become a huge part of his future.
His vocals and passion for giving back to his community brought him all the way to the White House to meet with President Bush. After graduating high school he moved to Sarasota, FL where he studied business. During this time, his sister married what would become not only his brother-in-law, but his musical brother as well, Aaron. It was during this time they discovered they shared a passion for performing music. They started with a two man band called Double A and have grown so much since then…
Currently, Austin owns his own business in Sarasota, FL called Vampire Penguin SRQ. He loves the outdoors and all that Florida has to offer! He continues to share his passion for music and cherishes the lifelong bond of friendship that has been made with his band mates!
Nick
Lead Guitar & Bass
Nick Dorfman is Lead Guitar & Bass for SINEWAVES! He was born in Southwest Florida and has lived in the area for his entire life. He has always loved music, and his first musical memory was being 4 years old listening to a Cat Steven’s tape his mom had, as well as Queens Greatest Hits, and was watching concert videos of Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, and The Beatles by age 5 thanks to his dad. His dad is a huge musical influence, a music aficionado himself, he introduced Nick to mutual favorites such as Yes, Rush, Frank Zappa, Hot Tuna, and they always try to catch a concert together a few times a year when their favorites pass through town.
Nick started his musician journey at age 10 learning piano from locally renowned musician and multi-US President performer Greg Rohr, who taught him not just classical but jazz and rock stylings as well. Nick went to High School at The Out of Door Academy, where he played keyboards in the jazz band, opening for acts including Spyro Gyra. He also played keyboards in bands while in Middle School up until he was in his early 20s, then he switched to mainly guitar full-time.
He picked up guitar at age 14 and is self-taught, having learned music theory during piano lessons. He has played in several Florida bands since age 14, and started jamming with SINEWAVES brother Aaron at age 15. They would jam for hours at a time playing legends like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, and other jams. Nick had an opportunity to meet Allman Brothers legend Dickey Betts at age 16 and got to play Dickey’s Sunburst Les Paul and jam with his band for a couple tunes, as well as received invaluable insight and even a few tips from the Ramblin’ Man himself. (btw, Nick and Dickey also happen to share the same birthday, December 12th.)
Nick’s influences include blues and rock guitarists, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers Band, Jerry Garcia, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, and Mark Knopfler. Nick’s favorites include most classic rock from the 1960s-current with Led Zeppelin and The Grateful Dead being his most listened to, and is a collector of live music bootlegs as well as vinyls. He re-joined his musical brother Aaron in 2019 joining SINEWAVES along with new brothers Austin and Nate. Nick currently fills in on both guitar and bass with Sinewaves, keeping in the spirit of how they do things. Nick is always finding new music projects and side gigs between his day job, but SINEWAVES is his only musical family.
Aaron
Rhythm Guitar, Vox, Drums & Bass
Aaron DeGroot plays Rhythm Guitar, Drums and Bass for SINEWAVES! He is a wearer of many hats - both in music and also in his career as a Creative Director & Client Strategy Professional.
Aaron was born and raised in Sarasota, FL and it was inevitable that music was going to be a huge part of his life. His main musical influence was his dad Glenn Greber. He played a key role in Aaron’s passion for damn good music. They rocked out to anything from classic rock greats like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Pink Floyd to heavy head-bangers like Extreme, Metallica and Alice in Chains to jazz and soul masters like Buddy Rich, Steely Dan and Gino Vannelli. It was all about the drums! Aaron started taking drum lessons at the age of 9 with his dad’s childhood drum teacher. He honed his skills, works on his chops and most importantly, learned that playing music is a gift that should be shared with the world.
What started as a friendship between their dads, Aaron would soon meet Nick and after connecting over their love of Led Zeppelin, they would spend the next 2 decades rocking together.
Aaron is a Riverview High School Alumni, and was in the Kiltie Band - Highlander Drum Corps. This is where Aaron met Nate. They became good friends, but as most high school friendships go, they never expected to reconnect 25 years later.
Attending the University of Central Florida in 2007, Aaron became good friends with a fellow musician and artisan by trade. With a fierce desire to learn the guitar, he began fine tuning his newly found love and figuring out that his own personal style blends a lot of Blues, Jazz and Soul. On any given weekday morning on the UCF campus from 2008-2010, you would find two scrappy dudes - both with guitars - singing, strumming and sending those good vibes in the breezeway to hundreds of faculty and students. They starred on a College Talent Search Show and formed the duo YANKEE RACER - recording one demo album before dismantling. The album titled Silver Arrows exists to this day…
After graduating, Aaron went on to build his career in the Advertising world. Shortly after moving back to Sarasota to work at a boutique Advertising./Media Production agency, he would meet the love his life, Breanna. Aaron then met his soon-to-be brother-in-law, Austin. Not long after connecting through music, they formed an acoustic duo, Double A. Years later, they would go on to form what is now SINEWAVES with reunited brothers Nick and Nate,
Nate
Drums & Guitar
Nate Blaweiss plays drums and guitar for SINEWAVES! Nate grew up in Sarasota and went to high school with Aaron, playing in drum line together at Riverview High School. Nate then went to FSU where he played snare with the Big 8 Drumline for a season before switching his focus to major in guitar.
After school, Nate returned to Sarasota to work and save money for grad school, which is when he and Aaron started jamming for fun. Aaron recruited his brother Austin to come sing with us, and his ‘brother’ Nick joined us soon after, and SINEWAVES was born!
Nate works at Venice Theatre as Resident Sound Designer. He runs live sound, mixing musicals and plays, writes original music for productions, manages equipment for multiple stages, and collaborates with directors and producers of all kinds. Nate also edits and mixes podcasts (and one radio show), plays drums and guitar with churches and community groups, and plays with SINEWAVES. Nate is happily married, loves dogs but has 2 cats, plays video games, and enjoys going to music festivals and concerts in his limited free time.
